The simplest and most reliable approach to configuring inbound Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is to have suppliers send electronic documents directly to your ecosio email address. If you need to forward emails instead, you must configure forwarding in a way that avoids common Sender Policy Framework (SPF) issues.

Using your ecosio email address

Have suppliers send documents directly to your ecosio inbound email address for the simplest setup and best deliverability.

1. Ask your ecosio Integration Engineer for your recipient address.
2. Send test emails with PDF and XML attachments. You should also test multiple attachments to confirm split behaviour.
3. Verify emails are displayed on the Messages overview page in the Monitor. If the email isn’t displayed:
   • Check whether the email includes the document as a file attachment.
   • Check the email contains a supported attachment type.
   • Ensure you send the email to only one ecosio recipient address.
4. Share your ecosio inbound email address with your suppliers, and instruct them to send electronic documents to this email.

Forwarding to ecosio

Forward documents to ecosio if your suppliers send them directly to your email address rather than your ecosio address.

1. Configure your mail system in one of the following ways:
   • Forward as a new email so the sender becomes your domain.
   • Forward the email using the Sender Rewriting Scheme (SRS) to prevent SPF failures whilst preserving the original sender. Don't use simple redirect forwarding that keeps the original sender. This often fails SPF.
2. Send test emails with PDF and XML attachments. You can also test multiple attachments to confirm split behaviour.
3. Verify emails are displayed on the Messages overview page in the Monitor. If the email isn’t displayed, contact your Integration Engineer.
